Subject: Request for Your Stance on Fur Sale Ban in Orange County

    Dear Commissioner NAME,

I hope this email finds you well. As a concerned resident of our community, I am writing to understand your position on the retail sale of fur products. I strongly support the initiative by FurFreeOrangeCounty.org to ban the sale of new fur items in our district, a cause deeply important to me.

My concern stems not only from the inhumane treatment of animals in the fur industry but also from its environmental impact. The process of fur dressing, involving chemicals to prevent rotting, has been identified by the World Bank Group (2013) and echoed by Hoskins (2013) as one of the world's five worst industries for toxic metal pollution. This startling fact underscores the significant ecological footprint of the fur industry, far beyond the immediate cruelty to animals.

Each year, over 100 million animals, including beavers, dogs, cats, raccoons, foxes, mink, and bears, suffer in this industry. When rabbits are included, the number of lives lost exceeds a billion. With many cruelty-free alternatives available, continuing the trade and use of fur products seems unnecessary and ethically questionable.

The proposed ban on new fur items aligns with our community's values of animal welfare and environmental sustainability. For more details, please refer to the proposed ordinance here: https://furfreeorangecounty.org/resources/docs/furfree_oc_ordinance.pdf

Your commitment to the well-being of District NUMBER has always been evident, and I appreciate your ongoing efforts in our community. I would be grateful to hear your views on this significant matter. Please email furfreeorangecounty@gmail.com with any further discussion or questions you might have.

Thank you for your time and attention to this crucial issue.

    Best regards,
